Meaning of avocado intolerance
Avocados are considered a healthy food and
is the best source of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA). The fruit contains
about 20 minerals and vitamins. It is also known to boost heart health and
lower the cholesterol levels. But for some people who suffer from avocado
allergy, this fruit might bring about a bad experience.
Avocado intolerance refers to the
unpleasant feeling that people get after eating avocados. It is similar as all
other types food allergies but has some mild effects on the body. People are
more likely to develop an oral allergy from avocados which generally results in
mild reactions. There is also one more kind of allergy that people develop from
avocados except oral allergies, this is called latex allergy. Latex allergy is
caused due to cross reactions.
Oral allergies occur when your body
perceives avocados as a foreign invader that could harm your body. So, the
immune system produces antibodies to fight against it which gives rise to
allergies. It is common with people who suffer from birch pollen allergy. In
case of latex allergy, the allergen reacts with other things. These cross
reactions may occur with other food or any on going medicines the person may be
taking.
The various symptoms of avocado intolerance
include- sore throat, headache, abdominal pain, nausea, stomach upset,
dizziness, problem in breathing and anaphylactic shock in the extreme cases. The
symptoms may be different depending upon the type of allergy. Avocados are a
good source of histamine, which is natural amines. It also plays a part in
keeping the body immune. The immune system releases histamine and this causes
allergies. People with eczema should avoiding the use of anything that contains
histamine as it can increase itching. This histamine can also cause itchy skin
and hives.
Avocado allergy can also appear in infants.
It is advised that parents with avocado allergy should avoid giving it to their
kids. Parents should also closely notice the response their babies give after
using avocados. To avoid severe allergic reactions people must see an allergist
if minor symptoms of allergy are noticed. Only after having a proper diagnosis
it is possible to determine the kind of allergy.
