Benefits of Mulathi

Mulethi or the Licorice root is obtained from a plant named Licorice (or Liquorice). Licorice is a perennial herbaceous plant found Asia and Europe. Mulethi has antioxidant, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer and analgesic properties. It is considered as an important herbal plant in Ayurveda due to its therapeutic uses.
Benefits of Mulethi: Mulethi is used for treating many diseases such as diabetes, joint pain, acidity, constipation, sore throat, etc. Some of the properties of mulethi are as follows:
1.       Improves Immunity: The Licorice root if consumed on regular basis is known to boost immunity. The enzymes present in the Mulethi root improves the immune system and protects the body against pathogenic microorganisms and pollutants.
2.       Improves Digestion:Mulethi root also boosts digestion and relieves in the disorders of digestive system such as constipation, heartburn, acidity, etc. It is also used to treat different types of ulcers and has antacid property.
3.       Treating Bronchitis and Asthma: Mulethi roots are used to treat bronchitis and asthma due to its anti-inflammatory activities.
4.       In Menopause:Mulethi roots are used to ease the symptoms of menopause. The roots are known to have some compounds that are used to treat hormonal imbalance.
5.       As Skin Soother:Mulethi roots are used to soothe the skin rashes and helps in maintaining healthy and glowing skin.
Apart from these used, Mulethi is also used as spices in food and as flavoring agent. It is used to treat sore throat, enhance good health of liver and lowers blood pressure. It is an amazing plant used to control cholesterol levels and also increases fertility in women.
Mulethi is easy to consume in form of boiled tea where the roots of mulethi is boiled and water and then consumed. It is not adviced to drink more than two cups of mulethi tea.
