Treatmentof kiwi allergy

Kiwi may cause different reactions on different people. The most important step in treatment of kiwi allergy is to avoid the fruit itself. Kiwis are mostly found in fruit salads, smoothies, packaged frozen fruits, ice creams and sorbets. People should carefully read the ingredients list before purchasing any such food or any other baked goods like muffins and cakes.

You should not ignore the early signs of an allergy. In case of allergies you should seek the advice of an allergist to determine the cause of allergy. Treatment and medication is provided according to the case only. Parents should be more careful in case of infants and children.  In case someone in the family is allergic to something special care should be taken while using that same food or substance.
People allergic to kiwis also have a risk of being allergic to other foods like hazelnuts, avocados, melons, rye grains, bananas, pine apples, olives, Japanese cedar, latex and birch pollen. Therefore, it would be better to consult your doctor before taking these to avoid cross reactions. Kiwis are also not taken with milk as it is known to absorb all the proteins present in milk.

People with latex allergy are in more risk of being allergic to kiwis also. Use of kiwis should be avoided in such case as it may worsen the condition. Kiwi allergy symptoms also include dizziness, difficulty in breathing and anaphylaxis. These cases require immediate medical attention and it is advised to use an EpiPen.


There are various varieties of kiwi and each variety may have a different effect on you. An allergist may help you in that case. You should be clear about which variety of kiwi you consumed. The allergist may suggest you avoid consumption of some food. Youmust follow that advise because avoidance in better than cure.
